I began running in January of 2008 because my sister wanted a reason to get in shape and visit Reno at the same time. She found a race called the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey. I'm not a climb-the-ladder-by-starting-at-the-bottom kind of person, so I followed my sister's crazy lead and started to train for the 178 mile relay split between 12 participants and 36 legs. After completing the 2008 RTO I joined Team In Training to help fight blood cancers and train for a marathon at the same time. I completed the Nike Women's Marathon in 2008 in San Francisco. After that, I ran my first half marathon. A little backwards, perhaps, but it has worked for me.
I continue to run with Team In Training and plan on joining the Los Angeles chapter (Go South Bay team!) for the Disneyland half in September.
I'd like to note that I have PR'd (set a personal record) in each subsequent race I've done. I hope to continue that tradition until I find my perfect running pace (or get too old). I plan to blog about smaller races I participate in, but I cannot remember all of my past races.
